Importance of keeping the historic buildings in these two locations

In Milford, most of the buildings there date back to the eighteenth and nineteenth century. Many of the original homes and buildings have been preserved throughout the centuries. Some of these houses have been converted into businesses. For example at 414 Main Street, a small one story house was converted into a hair salon. In Athens, most of the buildings date to the founding of the city. On Court Street, most of the buildings are older and have character. But sadly there has been historic buildings like the Berry Hotel that was torn down in 1974 to create a parking lot. Then in 1997 the Court Street Diner was built on the previous location of the Berry Hotel.
I believe that it is important to keep these historic buildings since the buildings contain so much history and character. Usually newer buildings do not have the same character that older buildings were built with. Also with older buildings, it is obvious that the building itself has history. For example Bagel Street Deli bricks inside the restaurant has writing all over them. The writing on the bricks go back many years which shows all the different history and memories that occured in that space.
